WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Alliance for Biosecurity issued the following statement on the passage of a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through February and the short-term extension of critical Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) provisions:
“The Alliance for Biosecurity commends Congress for funding the federal government and extending critical PAHPA provisions through February 2024, avoiding a partial government shutdown and the lapse of critical public health authorities.
The Alliance urges Congress to now prioritize long-term funding for biodefense programs and the full reauthorization of PAHPA to protect national security and support investments in public-private partnerships and other health and security programs that support the development, procurement, and stockpiling of live-saving medical countermeasures (MCMs). Continued uncertainty in biodefense funding and programs risks erasing progress made after the COVID-19 Pandemic and undermining our national preparedness.”
