Alliance for Biosecurity Co-Chair Christopher Frech Testifies Before Congressional Committee on Investment in Biodefense Preparedness

Alliance for Biosecurity Co-Chair and Senior Vice President & Senior Advisor to the CEO at Emergent BioSolutions Christopher Frech testifies before the House Appropriations LHHS Subcommittee on biodefense preparedness and MCM investment.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Alliance for Biosecurity Co-Chair Christopher Frech testified before the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) on the importance of federal preparedness and response programs and the urgent need to support increased and sustained investments in the development, procurement, and deployment of medical countermeasures (MCMs) to combat growing chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.

“Continuity across the MCM enterprise is necessary to protect the warfighter, the American people, preserving national security, and strengthening our domestic preparedness and response capabilities,” Frech said. “ While the federal government plays a vital role in bolstering America’s biosecurity, it cannot safeguard the nation alone. Robust and sustained federal investment is essential to foster the public-private partnerships needed to close gaps in our MCM preparedness.”

Frech thanked members of the House Appropriations Committee for their ongoing bipartisan support for biodefense priorities, including a recent letter by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) on the importance of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), and support for annual programmatic funding increases by Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), LHHS Subcommittee Chairman Robert Aderholt (R-AL), and Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD). The Alliance for Biosecurity has submitted appropriations requests to over one hundred Members of Congress in support of federal funding for biodefense and preparedness programs in the 119th Congress.
