WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Alliance for Biosecurity proudly presented Representative Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) with the Congressional Biodefense Champion Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this year, celebrating her extraordinary contributions to strengthening the nation’s biodefense preparedness. This prestigious award honors Members of Congress who demonstrate unparalleled leadership in advancing public health and national security policies.
Rep. Eshoo, a co-author of the landmark Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA), joins her 2019 PAHPA reauthorization counterpart, former Representative Susan Brooks (R-IN), as only the second recipient of this distinguished honor.
“Strengthening public health has been my north star over my entire tenure in Congress, so I am deeply honored by the recognition of the Alliance for Biosecurity with the Congressional Biodefense Champion Lifetime Achievement Award. The Alliance has been a partner in my work and I applaud them for their outstanding advocacy,” Eshoo said.
Reflecting on their collaboration, Rep. Brooks shared:
“During my eight years in Congress, no one exemplified a stronger or wiser legislative partner than my friend, Congresswoman Eshoo. Her dedication and commitment to protecting the American people from biological threats is unmatched. It was my high honor to serve as her partner as we shepherded the last reauthorization of PAHPA in 2019, after years of hard work listening, learning and improving PAHPA. I congratulate her on a stellar and impactful career in Congress.”
Christopher Frech, Co-Chair of the Alliance for Biosecurity, emphasized the significance of Rep. Eshoo’s contributions:
“The Alliance for Biosecurity is proud to honor Representative Eshoo with the Congressional Biodefense Champion Lifetime Achievement Award. As one of the original authors of PAHPA, her nearly two decades of bipartisan leadership have been instrumental in enhancing America’s preparedness and response capabilities. This award is a fitting tribute to her legacy of service and dedication.”
Through her vision and commitment, Congresswoman Eshoo has left an indelible mark on U.S. biodefense policy. Her leadership on PAHPA and its reauthorizations has equipped the nation to better respond to public health emergencies and emerging threats.
As she prepares to leave Congress, the Alliance for Biosecurity extends its deepest gratitude for her decades of partnership and congratulates her on a remarkable and impactful career.
